If you’re in the market for a new roof and are considering choosing a barrel concrete roof tile, you may have noticed there are two profile options to choose from: high and medium barrel.
High barrel tiles, otherwise known as high profile S-tiles, are semi-cylindrical concrete tiles and are typically the most recognized of all tile profiles. They are beautiful and timeless, emulating the authentic look of Spanish clay tile found in the Old World and pairs well with the architecture of this era. Eagle Roofing Product’s high barrel concrete roof tile profile, Capistrano, has a barrel height of 3 inches, complementing larger sized homes of a greater square footage.
The other size of barrel tile is a medium barrel. This is a more modern version of the S-tile and sometimes referred to as an M-tile. Eagle Roofing Product’s Malibu profile with a barrel height of 2 1/8 inches would be most similar in shape. The tile’s gentle curves add visual interest and striking effects, easily complementing exteriors that take on a more Contemporary approach to the Spanish or Mediterranean styles of architecture. With more barrels per tile, the Malibu profile is recommended for smaller sized roofscapes, generally under 2,500 square feet.
While both barrel concrete roof tile profiles make for a stunning exterior, the choice is ultimately yours.
